The Vehicle Recycling Association was formed in 1943 and represents the interests of approximately 200 companies. VRA members are typically small and medium sized, usually family owned, businesses.

VRA membership is open to companies of all sizes, from owner-operators to national multi-site and international businesses: vehicle dismantlers, salvage agents and metal recyclers; companies associated with the industry – auction houses, recovery operators, body shops, equipment suppliers, service providers etc. VRA represents the interests of its members to Government (both UK and European), other industry sectors and consumers. It provides advice and guidance to members and encourages professionalism in order to give confidence that its members are operating legally, that they meet certain standards and their activities don’t damage the environment.

VRA is also the primary source of information about vehicle recycling in the UK. VRA provides help and assistance to members dealing with issues such Environment Agency and permitting, DVLA, Certificates of Destruction, Technical Competence, recycling targets, Scrap Metal Dealers Act, site insurance, health and safety, parts IT systems, sales legislation, airbags, part worn tyres and fuel recovery from vehicles.

VRA is the route by which UK Government hears the views of members, and is the body to which Government turns when in need of answers. As a result of being consulted by Government departments such as the BIS, DEFRA, DVLA, DFT, EA/ SEPA and the Home Office, MVDA has been able to present a practical view of legislation.

Much of the major legislation that affects our businesses today is the result of European Directives and through the VRA’s membership of EGARA (European Group of Automotive Recycling Associations) we are able to provide input both at the European Commission level and at European Parliament level. This input is vital to both the future of our industry and your business.
